What is Photodynamic reaction?
Lumoral method is based on the photodynamic reaction. It is an antibacterial process, known to all plants - they use it to protect themselves from harmful bacteria and viruses. It is one of the immune functions in the plant world.
Photodynamic reaction requires
- a light-sensitive molecule (also called a sensitizer)
- a particular type of light
- presence of oxygen
When photosensitizers are exposed to specific wavelengths of light, they produce a form of oxygen, that eliminates targeted bacterial cells. Human cells can protect themselves from reactive oxygen with an enzyme called catalase.
Lumoral brings this elegant method to your home to use for personal oral hygiene.
